- Canola versus rapeseed versus mustard-rapeseed — what is the difference?
- Canola is the trade name for rapeseed varieties bred to <2% erucic acid + <30 µmol/g glucosinolates — the food-grade / animal-feed standard. Rapeseed (industrial / biodiesel) is high-erucic (40%+) — for biodiesel and lubricant feedstock, NOT for food. Indian / Pakistani mustard-rapeseed (Brassica juncea / B. rapa) is high-erucic, traditional culinary use. Specify clearly on the PO; mis-shipment can cause food-safety rejection.
- Non-GMO versus GMO — which markets accept which?
- Canadian and Australian canola is largely GMO (Roundup Ready / glufosinate-tolerant). Ukrainian, Russian, Indian, and Pakistani rapeseed is non-GMO. EU buyers generally require non-GMO (or specifically labelled). Asian feed compounders accept GMO. Specify GMO status on PO; we provide a Non-GMO declaration on every Indian / Pakistani / Ukrainian shipment.
- What oil content and FFA should I specify?
- Canola: oil 42–46%, FFA < 1%, moisture < 9%. Indian / Pakistani mustard: oil 38–42%, FFA < 2%, moisture < 9%. Industrial high-erucic: oil 44–48%, FFA < 2%. We provide origin lab COA on every shipment; pre-loading sampling and SGS / Bureau Veritas independent inspection available on programme volumes.
- How does rapeseed pricing track to other oilseeds?
- Rapeseed competes with soy (palm, sunflower) on global oilseed markets. Pricing tracks the Winnipeg ICE canola futures and EU MATIF rapeseed futures plus origin basis. Indian mustard-rapeseed pricing tracks Indian NCDEX RM-Seed contract plus inland logistics. Programme buyers lock LC pricing 60–90 days against vessel ETA.
- Can you ship rapeseed in bulk in-hold?
- Yes for programme volumes 5,000+ MT — bulk in-hold (Panamax or Supramax) loaded at Vancouver, Constanta, or Mundra and discharged at major destination ports with grain-handling infrastructure. FCL bulk works for 22–25 MT lots at smaller buyers. We coordinate port-to-silo logistics and provide SGS draft survey + sealed-hold certificate on bulk shipments.
